"Hello, I'm John Devine and, if you decide to come walking with Menorca Walking Holidays, I will be your walking guide.  For me, walking on Menorca is both a privilege and a passion.  Apart from playing center forward for Millwall, I've probably got the best job in the world.

Ever since I can remember, I've been an outdoor nut.  Whether it be camping, cross country running or even bounding around a muddy football pitch on a Sunday morning, I've always loved the great outdoors.

In 2002, having run a ridiculously stressful business in London for a number of years, my wife Carolyn and I decided to opt for the quiet life and move to Menorca with our 2 young children.  We'd already owned a property on the island for a number of years and, not being great 'laying on beach' people, had an extensive knowledge of Menorca's 'nooks and crannies'.  The general idea was to do nothing for a few years, but as they say, "you can change geography, but not people".

Pretty soon we were dividing our time between learning the two local languages (Menorcan and Spanish) to near fluency and using this new found skill to discover everything that we could about Menorca from the locals.  This included discovering hidden routes and paths not normally seen by non Menorcans.

After a year of this, we decided to exploit our knowledge in the name of shabby capitalism and started Menorca Walking Holidays.  At first, we used family and friends as guinea pigs for our proposed walks and bribed them with lunch afterwards.  Six years later, we've welcomed nearly 1000 guests with this same format and sometimes describe ourselves as "a Mediterranean walk to the pub".

I never get bored with showing people around Menorca and promise to bore you endlessly with Menorcan stories that have cost me the price of a beer.  I'm not an ornithologist, but know where the different birds of Menorca live.  I'm not a botanist, but know from experience where and when the stunning flora of Menorca can be found.  And the unique history of this island, don't get me started on that, you'll wish you hadn't!!!"
