New - Painting holiday on Mallorca

We are looking to organise a painting holiday on Mallorca, taking place during week of 11th October. Before confirming this date, we would like to know the potential level of demand for this project.

The holiday would be based from the Marina Hotel on the stunning Port of Soller. The whole area is a world heritage site and a perfect destination for painting. We found this film on You Tube, which should give you a feel for where we will be painting. As with our painting holidays on Menorca, the price of the holiday will be 799GBP and includes the following:

7 night´s bed and breakfast / 5 personally tutored painting sessions / 5 fabulous lunches (also included is a drink on arrival and all required wine) / First night "get together" tapas supper / All required transport, including airport runs / Mid morning tea/coffee

Along with a new location, we are delighted to be welcoming a new painting teacher to the fold. Ralph Hedley was born in Ashington, Northumberland and studied at Newcastle College of Art during the 60´s. Awarded a bursary from the Royal Society of Arts, he then travelled and began working in New York. In 1974 he returned to London, where he held his first one man exhibition. Since then, he has travelled extensively and his works feature in European, Australian, African, Canadian and North American collections. Now based on Mallorca, Ralph runs his own painting courses on the island and we are delighted that he has agreed to work with us. He shares our own philosophy that painting holidays should be relaxed and fun in order for creativity to flourish. Christmas singles walking anyone?

We are thinking about organising a singles walking week over the Christmas period this year. Before going ahead with this, we would like to gauge what interest there would be should we decided to go ahead.

The holiday would run between Friday, 27th December and Friday, 3rd January and would include 5 walks, 7 suppers, picnics, plus bed and breakfast. The meals would include a grand new year´s supper, where we will celebrate with the locals. The hotel itself is lovely and set right in the heart of the Menorca village of Ferreries. The only potential down side is that there are only flights from Gatwick at this time of year, which does make things a bit tricky if you live in another part of the country.

NEW Cycling Weeks on Menorca

Just to let you know that we are launching Cycling Holidays on Menorca during 2013. These will take place during weeks of:

10th May 2013
20th September 2013

These holidays will be based from Girasol Apartments in Son Bou and are open to singles and couples alike, with no single supplement if you are travelling alone. As with our walking holidays, the cycling option is to be enjoyed not endured and we take our 12-15 miles a day rides at the pace of the slowest in the group. There will also be 2 guides in attendance at all times, along with a backup vehicle. Here's what the holiday price of 699GBP includes:

7 nights bed and breakfast apartment accommodation
5 x 12-15 mile bike rides (these will include the services of 2 guides at
all times)
All bikes and helmets
Back up vehicle in attendance
All drinking water carried in back up vehicle
Mid morning tea/coffee and digestives
All personal airport transfers
Required transport during cycling days
5 x 3 course lunches after each day's activities (all wine included)
Opening night "getting to know you" tapas
Trip into local village for an evening historical/cultural tour

This is a bespoke holiday and we won't be putting any information about it on our website pages. We'll be looking at a group size of no more than 9 people, due to cycling being a bit harder to marshall than walking and we want to keep everyone safe.

Price and Value

We believe that our walking holidays here on Menorca and now Mallorca offer the best value of any walking holiday company on the market. We try to include as much as we can within our holiday price and our guests often tell us that they don't know how we do it for the price.

As we all know, price and value are 2 different things and it is sometimes easy to get caught out by a seemingly low holiday purchase price, only to find a whole range of small hidden extras cunningly tucked away in the small print. With this in mind, here's a list of things to look out for when booking a walking holiday.

Is all the transport included? This includes pick up/drop off at the airport and to and from the walks. Menorca Walking Holidays offer a meet and greet aiport service, along with all the transport that you'll need during your walking holiday.

How many guides will be looking after you during the walks? Menorca Walking Holidays have at least 2 guides on the route looking after our guests at all times.

Does your walking holiday organiser offer an on route back up vehicle? Menorca Walking Holidays have a 9 seater van on route at all times, just in case.

What's included with the meals? Are you paying on top for wine? With Menorca Walking Holidays, all wine with meals is included within the holiday price.

What do you have to take with you during your day's walking? With Menorca Walking Holidays, not much. We provide and carry all required drinking water for the day, along with tea and coffee. All walking sticks are also provided for the week.

10 good reasons to come to Menorca

Whilst trawling the internet, we came across this article about 10 good reasons why you should visit Menorca. As they say, “I couldn’t have put it better myself” and, with this in mind, we’ve shamelessly copied and made it into one of our news items.

Seriously though, sometimes when you live somewhere beautiful, you can’t always see the wood for the trees. This short article enforced our belief as to what a fantastic place Menorca is to enjoy a walking holiday.

Here’s the list:

1) Menorca is home to more beaches than its 2 bigger cousins Mallorca and Ibiza combined. Many of these are completely natural and only reachable on foot.

2) Its one of only 500 “biospheres” to be found in the world. That’s to say, it’s recognized as an area of outstanding natural beauty by the international ecological body, Unesco.

3) The busy and bustling port of Mahon in the island's capital is the second deepest natural harbour in the world. The busy bars and restaurants at the water’s edge also make for a great night out.

4) After just a 2 hour flight from the UK, you’re in another world, far less commercial and stress free than home.

5) Menorca is really “Brit friendly”. This, they say, goes back to our domination of the island over 200 years ago. You’ll still find some old ladies buying their fruit in pounds and ounces over here.

6) During the summer months, every village holds a fiesta to celebrate its patron saints day. These manifest themselves with dramatic displays of horsemanship right in the middle of thousands of people.

7) These insane 3 day parties are fueled by the local hooch “Pomada”, which is lemonade mixed with the locally produced gin, yet another reminder of Menorca’s English history.

8) If archaeology is your thing, there’s nowhere better. Menorca is home to more pre-Christ remains per square foot than anywhere else in Europe. Evidence from the Romans, Neolithic and Moorish occupations is everywhere.

9) Its only 50km long and 20km wide and so nothing is far from anywhere.

10) The old villages of Menorca are like stepping back 100 years in history. They all retain a natural charm, pretty much unaffected by the outside world.
